Oil Festival, 30th edition
Three days entirely dedicated to the green gold of the Val d’Orcia hills. A product of great excellence is the extra virgin olive oil that San Quirico d’Orcia celebrates with the 30th edition of the Oil Festival, scheduled from 8 to 10 December, organized by the Municipality and Pro Loco.
It was 1993 when San Quirico decided that the new vintage of extra virgin olive oil should be a moment of celebration, an explosion of flavors and aromas, the best opportunity to get to know and taste a great excellence of this territory.
From 8 to 10 December , through the streets of the town of Val d’Orcia, the flavors and aromas of the new oil, popular folklore, the opportunity to visit world-famous landscapes and to taste the brand new vintage of extra virgin olive oil with the leading producers.
An edition that also leaves room for trekking, tastings in companies and guided tours carried out in collaboration with Aicoo, for a celebration that makes green gold the undisputed king of Val d’Orcia tradition. And lots of music and entertainment to enliven the squares and streets of the historic center.
THE PROGRAM.
FRIDAY 8 DECEMBER – 10am, opening of the stands of Evo Oil producers and agri-food excellence; 11 guided tours of the Simonelli oil mill; always at 11am at Palazzo Chigi, Tasting Let’s learn to (re)know olive oil organized by AICOO; at 12.15pm, inauguration of the nativity scene in the church of San Francesco. At 3pm in the historic centre, music and shows along the streets of the town; at Palazzo Chigi (3pm) oil and herb laboratory; at 4pm guided tour of the Simonelli oil mill; at 7.30pm Closing of the producers’ stand. At 9pm, Between lights and shadows, guided tour of the monuments of the historic centre; at 9pm in Piazza della Libertà, Jazz evening with Vittorio Gravagna Trio, in collaboration with Siena Jazz – Accademia Nazionale del Jazz.
SATURDAY 9 DECEMBER – From 8am to 7pm Craft market outside Porta Nuova; at 9.30 in Piazza Chigi, off to the Oil Trekking, a tourist route with tasting (Vignoni ring); at 10am the stands of extra virgin olive oil producers and agri-food excellences will open; at 10.300 Tree Festival 2023; at 11am guided tour of the Simonelli oil mill; at Palazzo Chigi (11am), tasting Let’s learn to (re)know olive oil by AICOO; 12pm in the historic center – Performance of the Barbarossa Festival Districts. At 2.30 pm, the “Olympics” will take place in the streets of the historic center; at 3pm, music and shows with the Street Band CiacciaBanda; at 4pm guided tour of the Simonelli oil mill; at 5pm the Extra Virgin and Sportsman of the Year Award ceremony; and at 7.30pm producers’ stands close and at 9pm in Piazza della Libertà, jazz evening, with Giuseppe Vitale Trio, in collaboration with Siena Jazz, the National Jazz Academy.
SUNDAY 10 DECEMBER – At 9.30, in Piazza Chigi, Oil Trekking: tourist route with tasting (Vitaleta ring); at 10am, opening of the stands of Evo Oil producers and agri-food excellence. At 11am, at Palazzo Chigi, tasting “Let’s learn to (re)know olive oil” organized by AICOO. Also at 11am guided tour of the Simonelli oil mill; while a cooking show will take place in Piazza Chigi (11.30). In the historic center (3pm) music and shows; while the oil and herb workshop will be held in Piazza Chigi. At 4pm guided tour of the Simonelli oil mill and the city adventure investigative game entitled “Michelangelo’s oil”.
For the entire duration of the Oil Festival it will be possible to taste the best products of traditional Valdorcian cuisine and extra virgin olive oils in the historic center.

At Palazzo Chigi it will be possible to visit the exhibitions of Antonio Furi and Massimo Sonnini and the Barbarossa Museum, free entry
The Palace of Fairy Tales – During the days of the Festival, Palazzo Chigi transforms into a magical place, where you can live extraordinary experiences, between tradition and wonder. The rooms of the Palace will welcome little visitors with themed games, fairy tales, musical experiences, creativity workshops and fantastic characters! From December 8th to January 7th.
